Tuomas is a true veteran rock guitarist, who started his recording and performing career already in the early 80’s, as a middle school teen. While playing rockabilly in a teen band, Tuomas had been a keen Ritchie Blackmore and with that a Deep Purple and Rainbow fan ever since picking up the guitar at the age of 9. As a teen and young adult, Tuomas studied the guitar in his home town conservatory, while picking up chops from the likes of Edward Van Halen, Michael Schenker, Randy Rhoads etc.
Tuomas kept playing in various bands and teaching guitar as an adult, but focused on sports for a long while. In the late 90’s - early 2000’s the idea of finishing some ever haunting song ideas into true heavy rock releases started lifting its head, and within the next few years the pieces for starting Leverage started falling together. Through trial and error, lucky coincidents and a lot of hard work Tuomas’ desire to make a musical statement became a realm with Leverage, starting from the release of ‘Tides’ in 2006, and continuing with Leverage’s 6th full album coming out in 2025.
The influence of life long love, especially Ronnie James Dio - era Rainbow and classic heavy rock in general has always been easy to detect in Tuomas’ playing and songwriting.
While Leverage music has its own distinctive style, deriving from many different styles of guitar driven heavy rock music, and naturally varying through different lineups of the band, the core classic heavy rock approach has always been there. This is largely due to Tuomas’ strong sense of style and ever reforming direction with the music, now heavily leaning especially into the remarkable capabilities of the new vocalist Paolo Ribaldini.
